Reggie Bush Free Agent Rumors: Reunion With New Orleans Saints in Play? [VIDEO]

The New Orleans Saints could try to get into a bidding war for free agents Mark Ingram or Justin Forsett. Or they could wax nostalgic and re-sign Reggie Bush.

CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora tweeted Friday that Saints coach Sean Payton still thinks highly of the former USC running back, who was cut from the Detroit Lions last week. Larry Brown Sports picked up on the tweet.

Reggie Bush deemed a good fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers

The Saints drafted Bush No. 2 in the 2006 NFL Draft, and he spent five seasons with the team. Bush was an electric returner and third-down back during his tenure with the Saints, but never became the every-down back that the team had hoped he would become.

He had 2,090 rushing yards with the Saints during his five years; he actually had more receiving yards - 2,141 on 294 receptions.

Ndamukong Suh to blame for Reggie Bush's exit from the Detroit Lions?

But Bush proved himself more as a rushing threat during his two years with the Miami Dolphins and first of two years with the Detroit Lions.

Bush rushed for a career-high 1,086 yards during his first year with the Dolphins in 2011 and had 2,072 rushing yards combined during his two seasons in Miami - just 18 yards shy of his five-year total with the Saints.

Bush then set a career-high with 1,512 yards rushing and receiving combined with the Lions in 2013. He rushed for 1,006 yards and added 506 receiving yards on 54 receptions.

Unfortunately for Bush, injuries plagued his 2014 season, limiting him to 297 rushing yards and 253 receiving yards last season as Joique Bell took over as the Lions' featured back.

CBSSports.com added that the Saints also were ready to make an offer on free agent running back Justin Forsett if he does not re-sign with the Baltimore Ravens. But the Washington Redskins have expressed an interest in Forsett.

Ingram led the Saints in rushing with 964 yards last season while missing part of the season with a broken hand. But his production also made him more of a commodity in the free agent market.
