Ndamukong Suh Better Than J.J. Watt? Dolphins Make Lions Free-Agent Highest Defensive Player [VIDEO]

The Miami Dolphins had good reason to be confident about signing Ndamukong Suh.

ESPN reported that the Dolphins agreed with the prize free agent of the 2015 market on a six-year, $114 million agreement, including $60 million in guaranteed money.

Miami Dolphins confident their offer will land Ndamukong Suh

Teams officially can sign free agents on Tuesday afternoon.

The contract makes Suh the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL, the Detroit Free Press reported, surpassing Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt. In 2014, Watt signed a six-year, $100 million contract, then went out and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second time in three years.

Ndamukong Suh to blame for Detroit Lions releasing Reggie Bush?

According to the Free Press, a league source said that the Lions made an 11th-hour offer of six year for $102 million with $58 million guaranteed.

"Suh's side never made the Lions a firm offer during negotiations, which started last spring, but Suh still was considering staying in Detroit as recently as Saturday night because of his relationship with Lions coach Jim Caldwell and others in the organization," the Free Press reported.

Now the Lions must focus on trying to re-sign defensive tackles Nick Fairley and C.J. Mosley. The Free Press reported that Detroit is concerned with Fairley's health issues. He never has played a full season and was limited to eight games last season because of a sprained knee. The 31-year-old Mosley figures to be easier to sign, the Free Press reported. The money the Lions won't have to pay for Suh now could go to more free agents at other positions. Yahoo! Sports reporter Rand Getlin tweeted that Detroit is interested in signing free-agent running back C.J. Spiller after cutting Reggie Bush earlier in the offseason.

The Lions are looking for a complement for lead back Joique Bell.
