WrestleMania 31 John Cena vs. Rusev: 'Cenation' Leader Hints At Retirement If He Can't Win U.S. Championship

John Cena is ready for his match with Rusev at WrestleMania 31 and hinted that it could very well prove to be his last battle in the squared circle.

After falling to the mighty Russian at Fastlane last month, Cena will get his rematch at WrestleMania 31 on Mar. 29 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. and he hinted during an interview with Michael Cole that if he doesn't win, it could be it for him.

"There comes a point where people lose faith," Cena said. "And every time in my career when I'm down and it looks like I'm out, I tell everybody, 'Hang in there, hold on, I'm gonna dust myself off and I'm gonna come back fighting harder than I ever fought.' ...There's only so many times that I can look those believers in the eye and say listen, 'I got this one.' ...At WrestleMania if I don't get the job done, I have to face those consequences. And I've made a pact with myself -- I've been very vocal about this pact -- when I can't keep up with the WWE Superstars in the ring, I'd rather gracefully bow out into the night than hang around much too long and have all the work that I've ever done to build this brand, this company, go down the tubes for absolutely nothing."

OPINION: Sting vs. Undertaker Should Happen At WrestleMania 32 in Final Clash For Both

Cena, who won the United States Championship in his WrestleMania debut 11 years ago at WrestleMania XX, said he doesn't know what he would be without the WWE and that this match is more than just something for him to do on the biggest card of the year.

"If anything, I learned a very valuable lesson and hopefully one that will make me more effective in every opportunity I get in the future," Cena said. "Stephanie McMahon put it very bluntly, and it was a giant piece of humble pie, but the WWE is gonna be just fine without John Cena, but where is John Cena without the WWE? And I can't' give a good answer to that question. The WWE has provided me with a format to be who I am."

Cena, who won his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania 21 against JBL in 2005 and has main evented the show against the likes of Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Miz and The Rock, said this is his most important match yet at the "Show of Shows."

"I believe that this opportunity is the most important in my WWE career," Cena said. "Because normally at WrestleMania, you get the opportunity to showcase your ability and it is a scenario where you can have self-achievement. You win at WrestleMania and it is great for you...I'm not taking anything away from Rusev, he's undefeated, he's damn near unstoppable...But he's had the opportunity to come to this country and have some success in this country. And every single time he gets a chance to speak, all he does is belittle the United States of America. A country that I'm very proud to call home, yet by wearing that United States Championship, he is the representative of the United States of America. And I've had enough of it, and I don't think I'm alone."

Lastly, Cena said he's fighting for the WWE Universe and his country.

"I'm not fighting for just me," Cena said. "I'm fighting for all those before me saying, 'This guy has to be stopped.' I'm fighting for all those watching saying, 'This guy has to be stopped.' ...I know what's at stake at WrestleMania."
