Robert Griffin III Rumors: Jay Gruden Willing To 'Hit The Reset Button' On QB Situation If RG3 Doesn't Pan Out

The Washington Redskins are like several other teams in that they do not have a clearly defined quarterback situation right now. But unlike most other teams that do not appear to have a solution at quarterback, opinions around the league differ greatly about the talent that Washington currently has on the roster at the position.

Washington GM Has No Problem Moving On From RG3

Some teams think Robert Griffin III could still become an All Pro in the future. Others think he cannot handle the starting job and only gets by on his athletic ability. Earlier this week, Washington general manager Scot McLoughan stated that he felt no ties to any of the current quarterbacks on the roster because he did not draft any of them. He also indicated that he had no problem drafting another quarterback if the opportunity arose. According to NFL.com, head coach Jay Gruden shares similar sentiments.

"It's something we have to talk about in-house," Gruden said Wednesday. "If we think it's worth the risk to hit the reset button, if he's that good of a football player, if we decide in the building that he's that good of a football player that we think we should do that, then we should do that."

Jameis Winston Still Looks Fat Despite Months Of Training

Some have suggested that Washington may just be talking about taking a quarterback to drum up trade interest for their fifth overall pick. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported this week: "Do not be surprised if the Redskins' No. 5 overall pick is open for business."

Still, Gruden has said before that he is unsure about the current signal callers on the roster, so the team may find it hard to pass on Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston if one of them is available when Washington goes on the clock. Regardless, it seems increasingly likely that the team will decline RG3's fifth-year option, and they may not even keep him on the roster if they think that he cannot get the job done.
