The Carolina Panthers took a huge step back in 2014 after a great 2013 year. The team still managed to qualify for the postseason by winning the NFC South, although last year's NFC South was one of the weakest divisions in the history of the NFL, and the Panthers won it with just a 7-8-1 record.

The team's salary cap has been a disaster for a couple of seasons thanks to some short-sighted (to put it charitably) moves by the former general manager, and star quarterback has had little to work with and a lot to do. The author of the article certainly is not shy about giving his or her opinion on the matter, but they also back it up with some decent analysis about the quality of the team.
There is no word on whether the writer of the article has any connection to that kid from the NFL Play60 commercials that talks about replacing Newton and becoming his mom's favorite player.
