According to MLB.com, Verlander may start in a minor league game this Friday and be eligible to pitch the Tigers' second game of the season against the Minnesota Twins on April 8, but there is also a chance that he opens the season on the DL and returns April 12 when the team hosts the Cleveland Indians.

Verlander's status has been up in the air since he sustained a triceps injury Friday in spring training action against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Predictions and Preview For The National League East in 2015

"He said he feels a little bit better today," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Tuesday morning, according to MLB.com. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow."

Verlander said he felt a bit better Tuesday, but still won't throw until his soreness is gone and he is considered day-to-day.

"A little better today," Verlander said about how he feels. "Not dramatic improvement, but better."

Ausmus said he wouldn't rule out a minor league start for Verlander, but he also said the disabled list is a possibility.

"If we have to use [the DL], we will," Ausmus said.

If Verlander can't pitch in Game 2 of the season, Anibal Sanchez will step up and take his place.

Verlander, 32, wasn't up to his usual standards in 2014 as he pitched to a 15-12 record and fastened a 4.54 ERA through 32 starts.

The Tigers open up the 2015 campaign by hosting the Twins this Monday at Comerica Park.
