Milwaukee Bucks Acquire Mayo: Bucks Reportedly Will Sign Free Agent Guard O.J. Mayo to Three-Year Contact

Mayo has become the Milwaukee Bucks' favorite condiment.

The franchise on Friday came to an agreement with free agent guard O.J. Mayo to a three-year deal worth $24 million, CBSSports.com is reporting. The agreement caps a busy week for the Bucks, who dealt guard J.J. Reddick via a sign-and-trade to the Los Angeles Clippers as a part of a three-team deal.

Teams cannot officially sign free agents until July 10.

Mayo became a free agent after declining to exercise a player option he had with the Dallas Mavericks, according to CBSSports.com. That deal would have been worth $4.3 million to Mayo, so his patience was rewarded with a contract worth nearly double.

The 25-year-old Mayo averaged 15.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds in starting all 82 games for the Mavericks last season. The five-year NBA veteran spent the previous four seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies.

His most productive year scoring came in 2008-09, his rookie season in Memphis when he averaged 18.5 points per game. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Mayo has started all 82 games three times.

Mayo was suspended 10 games during the 2011 season as a member of the Grizzlies after testing positive for a banned steroid.

The Bucks also may lose guard Monta Ellis, who                 recently turned down a multiyear offer to remain in Milwaukee. Earlier in the day, ESPN.com reported that the Mavericks have an interest in Ellis, but the parties have not yet engaged in any serious discussion.

Mayo will be paired in the Bucks backcourt with point guard Brandon Jennings, who averaged 17.5 points and 6.5 assists per game last season.

Milwaukee finished 38-44 during the 2012-13 season and made the playoffs in the Eastern Conference as the No. 8 seed. The Bucks were swept in four games to the eventual champion Miami Heat.
