Jeff Van Gundy, The Masters: ESPN Announcer Puts Augusta National On Blast For Its Racist & Sexist Past [VIDEO]

One of the best qualities Jeff Van Gundy possessed as both an NBA coach and a current NBA broadcaster is his complete lack of filter.

JVG is the rare media personality who isn't afraid to speak what's on his mind, especially if he feels what he's saying is necessary or right in a larger context.

Such was the case on Wednesday night. As he and fellow announcers Mike Breen and Mark Jackson called the Phoenix Suns-Dallas Mavericks match-up, Breen brought up a plug for The Masters, the PGA major that ESPN is showing coverage of on Thursday and Friday.

Breen asked Van Gundy what he might say if he were ever an announcer at The Masters, and JVG responded perfectly.

"Oh, like they didn’t allow black people and women in there? Something like that?" Van Gundy asked, referring to Augusta National's history of racial and sexist discrimination. "Yeah, I’m glad we’re quiet about that. But anyway, how about Jack Nicklaus making a hole-in-one today in the par three tournament."

When Mark Jackson tried to cut the awkwardness with a joke, Van Gundy doubled down on his comments.

"Well I’m going to say it. Would I have been wrong, like, maybe pointing that out, that there’s something wrong with that?" he asked.

No, Jeff, there's nothing wrong whatsoever with that. Keep doing you.
