NFL teams are always on the lookout for players that they think can help turn their franchise into a winner or give them that extra boost to go from being a good team to a great team. Some teams are even willing to look outside of the pool of current and former football players to try and find a useful addition to the team.

Count the Indianapolis Colts as being part of that camp. The team has been on the upswing since drafting Andrew Luck first overall, and they are now trying to remake the roster around him so that the team can stay competitive while also easing Luck's burden. Apparently the team has been so desperate to find help for Luck that they once considered signing Hafthor Bjornsson, better known as Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane from HBO's Game of Thrones.
According to NFL.com, the team had the idea of signing Bjornsson a year or two ago, but a deal never materialized. Bjornsson stands 6'9" tall and weighs around 420 pounds. Aside from his HBO role, he is also a competitive strongman, and he has set multiple world records in recent months.

Team owner Jim Irsay certainly did nothing to downplay the speculation at the time.

Assuming that he has good enough footwork (which could be likely, as most strongman competitions involve making the big men move around as well as lift heavy things), it certainly seems possible that Bjornsson could have used his overwhelming strength to be a disruptive force along the defensive line, where he would have also been nearly impossible for opposing quarterbacks to throw over. He may have even been able to hold his own at a position on the offensive line.
Alas, it looks like fans will never actually know.
