Nashville Predators Paint Arena Snow Yellow: Jokes Abound After Open House Promotion for Fans

When you win just 16 games during a National Hockey League season, you're likely to try anything to get some publicity, even if that publicity begs for juvenile potty humor.

The Nashville Predators took an opportunity during the summer to unveil a new look at Bridgestone Arena, the Sporting News reported Wednesday.

The team, famous for their yellow jerseys, turned their home ice "gold." Fan relations coordinator Meghan Hunter tweeted several pictures of the ice as it was undergoing its transformation.

Deadspin.com reported that the stunt was to promote the team's Open House to its fans on Saturday. The Open House includes a used-equipment sale, an autograph session, a locker room tour and a public skate on golden ice, according to the Predators' official website, Predators.nhl.com.

Yardbarker.com reported that the ice will revert back to white when the team begins training camp for the 2013-14 season. Hunter tweeted she thought the colored ice would remain in place until September.

The Predators finished in last place in the Western Conference Central Division, 36 points behind the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks last season - the season was shortened to 48 games because of an NHL lockout that moved back opening night to Jan. 19.

The Open house is part of a ticket-sales promotion to get fans excited about the upcoming season. The Predators will feature rookie defenseman Seth Jones, the fourth pick in the NHL draft, playing alongside center David Legwand, defenseman Shea Weber and goalie Pekka Rinne.

Of course, the pictures of the ice invited jokes about yellow ice ("Don't eat yellow snow!) from several media outlets, even though the Predators themselves made sure to label the ice gold.
