AJ Lee announced her retirement from the WWE earlier this month, leaving many dream match scenarios unfulfilled.

WWE King of the Ring 2015 Predictions and Preview

The three-time Divas Champion and two-time Diva of the Year left the WWE on good terms and while the official reason hasn't been revealed, it likely has something to do with her husband CM Punk's highly-publicized turmoil with the WWE.

Lee leaves behind a great legacy in the ring despite her flourishing career coming to an end perhaps sooner than it should have.

With Lee gone, the fantasy matches she could have had remain just that -- a fantasy -- and here's a look at five potential opponents Lee could have feuded with down the road if things broke right.

5) Charlotte: WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair's daughter's call up to the main roster appears to be imminent, but she'll never be able to face Lee now that she has retired. With Lee gone and Paige on hiatus, the WWE will likely be running to the NXT well to bring some ladies up to replenish the Divas division. Lee and Charlotte could have had some good matches in the squared circle, but the timing unfortunately makes that impossible.

4) Natalya: The two WWE Divas have crossed paths before, but they never had a lengthy feud over the Divas Championship. Natalya and Lee have a nice clash of styles and a long-term feud between the two Divas would have been interesting to watch. The two were on opposing sides during Lee's crusade against the Total Divas cast members, but a longer program between the two would have had a lot of potential.

3) Beth Phoenix: "The Glamazon" left the WWE in 2012 just as Lee was rounding into form and while the two have met on television before, they never had a long-lasting rivalry. Phoenix was one of the most dominant Divas in the ring and is arguably one of the best workers the Divas division has ever had. Lee helped carry the torch of the division when Phoenix left and a clash between the two would have made for an epic showdown.

2) Lita: The WWE Hall of Famer has hinted at making a comeback, possibly at WrestleMania 32, and though she'll likely end up facing off with The Bella Twins a rivalry between her and Lee could have been something special. The two Divas have plenty of accolades between them as Lita was a four-time Women's Champion and won the PWI Woman of the Year in 2001 while Lee won the Divas Championship three times in a span of less than two years and was the Diva of the Year in 2012 and 2014. Lita also used to run with Jeff Hardy while Lee is married to Punk, who feuded with him in the past, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the match.

1) Trish Stratus: Like Lita, Stratus is a Hall of Famer and also seems willing to return to the ring, possibly to take on The Bella Twins next spring. Similar to Lee, Stratus helped revitalize a floundering Divas division when she was in her prime and she became one of the best workers in WWE history. Stratus was an astounding seven-time WWE Women's Champion, a record for the company, and won Babe of the Year for three straight years (2001-03) and Diva of the Decade for the 2000s. A clash between Stratus, a 2013 Hall of Fame inductee, and Lee would have been awesome to see.

Lee, 28, left the WWE on good terms so there is always a possibility she someday returns. If not, she left a great mark on the Divas division, holding the title for a combined 406 days, including her record 295-day reign in 2013.
