Okalahoma City Thunder Rumors: Team Involved In Formal Discussions With UF's Billy Donovan? [VIDEO]

The Oklahoma City Thunder missed the playoffs for the first time in years this past season, and it ended up costing head coach Scott Brooks his job. Some have labeled the firing unfair, as the Thunder were undoubtedly the most snake bitten franchise in the NBA with regard to injuries.

Others have argued that the firing was long overdue, as Brooks routinely failed to put together a competent offensive attack despite featuring two of the 10 best players in the league. Regardless, he is now out in OKC, and according to ESPN, they may already have a replacement in mind.

The Thunder have commenced formal discussions with University of Florida head coach Billy Donovan about filling their coaching vacancy. Donovan is regarded as the clear favorite to land the position, and no other names have really been mentioned in connection to the opening.

Rajon Rondo Out In Dallas Unless Rick Carlisle Goes?

Donovan had a down year this past season, but his run at Florida has been undeniably successful. It culminated when he won back-to-back national titles in 2006 and 2007.

Despite the excitement around the rumors, fans will likely not get their hopes too high until they actually see Donovan on the sidelines after what happened with the Orlando Magic back in 2007.

Fresh off of his second national title, Donovan decided that he wanted to take a crack at the NBA, and he agreed to become the head coach of the Orlando Magic. He backed out of the deal almost immediately and signed an extension with Florida that barred him from interviewing for NBA openings.

His embargo against NBA jobs ended a couple of years ago, and now he has apparently decided that he is ready for the big stage again.

Donovan is widely regarded as a superb coach, and the Thunder hope he will be the ones to lead them to a title.
