Once upon a time Plaxico Burress was going to be the next great NFL wide receiver. He was big, always found ways to get open, and he caught almost everything that you threw into his area code. He had occasional mental lapses on the field, but teams were more than willing to overlook them given his otherworldy talent.

Somewhere along the way, things started to follow a different path for Burress, and that culminated in 2008 when he shot himself in the leg while wearing sweatpants at a Manhattan nightclub. He subsequently served two years in prison because of a weapons charge, and his NFL career was effectively over.
According to TMZ, Plax could be in trouble with the law once again, and he could even be headed back to prison. This time, he has been indicted for allegedly failing to pay nearly $50,000 worth of taxes to the state of New Jersey.

Burress supposedly tried to transfer $48,000 electronically back in 2013 to settle his tax debt, but the transfer failed. Despite repeated notifications about the failed transfer, Burress never made another attempt to pay up.
Now Burress has been charged with willful failure to pay state tax and issuing a bad check or electronic funds transfer. There is only one count of each charge, but each one is punishable by up to five years of prison time.
Burress has yet to comment on the situation.
