Washington Fans News: DC Fans The Dumbest In The NFL? [VIDEO]

The Washington Redskins have a reputation for having one of the most passionate fan bases in the entire National Football League. The fans always show up to cheer on the team, and they bring a relentless optimism to the table, even as their team struggles on the field.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Washington also has another claim to fame regarding their fans, although they may be quite a bit slower to point out their newest "achievement." A new study reveals that Washington fans may also be among the least intelligent in the league, at least as it relates to their grammatical prowess.

Grammarly is an automated proofreading company that uses algorithms to check for grammatical errors. They were used to rank each NFL fanbase by writing skills based on reader comments.

The results were pretty bad for Washington, as their average fan made roughly 16.5 errors per 100 words written, which was last in the league by a wide margin. The New Orleans Saints were the second-worst fanbase, and they made only about 12.4 errors per 100 words.

The best score went to fans of the Detroit Lions, who averaged just 4.2 mistakes per 100 words written.

There is no correlation between mistake-prone fanbases and team record, as the New England Patriots were also among the worst teams, and they just won a Super Bowl.

Maybe Washington fans should take advantage the next time their team misses the playoffs by studying up on some grammar.
