Floyd Mayweather Jr. has too much money. The world's richest athlete stands to make more than $100 million for fighting Manny Pacquiao on Saturday, and if he wins he's pledged to use $10 million for a cause. Don't pat him on the back just yet though-the cause is reportedly bailing Suge Knight out of jail.
The infamous record promoter currently facing murder and attempted murder charges after he rammed a pickup truck into two men in Compton earlier this year. Knight's bail is $10 million, and Mayweather's lawyers have allegedly reached out to Knight about posting it.
"They're good friends," Knight's attorney Matthew Fletcher said. "That's one of his wealthiest friends. Suge said, 'Man, I was really going to pull for him to win, but now I'm going to have to pray for him to win.'"
$10 million is no drop in the bucket, even for an athlete as rich as Mayweather, but it represents a small percentage of what he will take from this fight alone. According to reports, Mayweather is expected to take home more than $100 million even if he loses. Before the fight even starts, Mayweather will receive $50 million.
Mayweather has agreed to a 60-40 split of the revenue allotted to the fighters, but there's a $20 million portion that will be split in favor of the winner. Should Mayweather win, he'll take home $10.2 million of that, while Pacquiao would take $9.8 million.
Knight's lawyers say that their client, who can be seen on camera clearly running over two victims, was acting in self-defense.
