Jameis Winston Baseball Rumors: Buccaneers Contract Bans Hardball Career? [VIDEO]

Jameis Winston will not be a two-sport athlete -- at least for now.

15 Key Storylines Through First Month of MLB Season

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Winston with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft on Thursday, but they were careful to make sure he won't be playing in the MLB as well.

According to TheMMBQ.com, Winston, who was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2012 MLB Draft, has a clause in his contract with the Buccaneers that won't allow him to play professional baseball.

ESPN reports that Winston signed a four-year deal worth $24.35 million, including a $16.69 million signing bonus on Friday, a day after officially drafting him. The deal, which includes a fifth-year option, is also guaranteed while containing the baseball clause put in by Tampa Bay.

Winston told TheMMBQ.com in February that playing baseball and football "always has been my dream," but it appears as though that dream will be put on hold for now.

The site reports that after Winston made those comments, he was contacted via text message by the Buccaneers and informed that they wanted to select him No. 1, but he'd have to give up his dream of playing baseball.

Winston, 21, played two seasons of baseball at Florida State and served as the Seminole's closer and he also played in the outfield occasionally. Winston went 1-0 in 2014 with FSU and added seven saves and 31 strikeouts in 33.1 innings pitched.

On the gridiron, the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner went 305-for-467 (65.3%) last season for 3,907 yards with 25 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

Overall in two years playing for the Seminoles, Winston was 562-for-851 (66.0%) for 7,964 yards with 65 scores and 28 picks.
