Tiger Woods may have been paired with Adam Scott for the final round of the British Open at Muirfield on Sunday, but all eyes were directed at Scott's caddie.
Steve Williams, former bag carrier for Woods before being fired, and currently caddying for Scott, shared a moment with Woods in the final round of the British Open.
While the ending of Williams and Woods' relationship wasn't exactly pleasant, cooler heads prevailed on Sunday as the two shook hands and looked to have buried the hatchet. During the post-round handshake with Scott finished tied for third and Woods tied for sixth, Woods and Williams had a brief conversation on the 18th green in Gullane, Scotland.
Woods fired Williams in 2011, and soon after Williams was hired by Scott. After Scott and Williams won together for the first time at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in 2011, Williams said, "I've caddied for 33 years - 145 wins now - and that's the best win I've ever had," according to Yahoo Sports.
The quote was seen as a jab to Woods, but the conversation on Sunday was more pleasant with Williams holding Woods by the hand and speaking to him before ending the conversation by patting him on the back emphatically.
"He was saying it was a good fight out there today," Woods said about the conversation he and Williams shared on Sunday according to Bleacher Report.
Williams was by Woods side for 13 of his 14 major championships, and Woods has yet to win a major since his departure. Woods present bag carrier, Joe LaCava, said after the British Open that Woods and Williams had some good conversations throughout the day, but declined to give any specifics.
"If [the relationship] is getting better, that's great for both of them," LaCava said on Sunday according to Yahoo Sports. "Life's too short, right? I'm glad Stevie's making the effort, and Tiger's accepting the effort."
