Josie Harris, the mother of two of Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s children and whose assault landed the champion fighter in prison for two months, is suing her ex for defamation and slander following comments he made about her during a televised interview with Katie Couric ahead of "The Fight of the Century."
Speaking with Couric, Mayweather denied the details of his domestic violence conviction. He was accused of kicking Harris and deliberately punching her in the back of the head to avoid visible bruising because he had learned she was dating NBA player C.J. Watson. The two were no longer a couple at the time, and Mayweather was engaged to Shantel "Miss" Jackson.
"Did I kick, stomp, and beat someone? No, that didn't happen. ... Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. So if they say that's domestic violence, then, you know what? I'm guilty. I'm guilty of restraining someone," Mayweather told Couric.
Harris is suing Mayweather on the basis that he defamed her in promotion of the biggest fight of his career, and told malicious lies about her use of drugs. "It was not Mayweather's 'restraint' of Harris that caused her serious injuries, rather it was his beating of her," her attorney said in a court filing. She's seeking $20 million in damages..
This is the perfect time to sue Mayweather; he's already received $100 million for facing Pacquiao on Saturday and could make up to $100 million more after pay-per-view revenue is calculated. There is also damning evidence against Mayweather's claims of "restraining" Harris, including written testimony from his then-10-year-old son.
In the note, which can be seen in full here, his son detailed Mayweather kicking and beating Harris, and Mayweather's bodyguards preventing him from leaving to get help.
