Athletes With Celebrity Girlfriends Play Better While Dating The Celeb

A new study finds that athletes with celebrity girlfriends typically perform better over the course of the relationship.

SeatCrunch.com compared and examined 108 athlete/celebrity relationships dating back as far as the 1990s and concluded that such “flings may be beneficial to an athlete overall’s performance.”

Researchers compared the athletes’ career arches prior to and during the relationships, with the results somewhat surprisingly and overwhelmingly revealing that the stats of the players involved generally and dramatically rose during the peak of the union.  Data also shows that even after the breakup, most athletes’ production remained at higher levels than it ever reached prior to the couple becoming an item.

Different sport-specific statistics were used to determine a player’s “success” leading to a relationship score. For example, goals and assists were used for soccer players, while yearly earnings were used for tennis players.

A couple’s relationship scores was defined as a numerical reflection of how the player’s performance changed while they were together. More specifically, it was deemed as the percentage change between the player’s average statistics before the relationship and his statistics during the union.

Breakups scores were calculated based on a numerical reflection of how the player’s performance changed after the couple broke up. It also reflects the change between the average statistics during the relationship and his averages during the year after the break up.
