Ambrose sat down with Michael Cole and discussed his Fatal 4 Way Match with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Randy Orton this Sunday at Payback in Baltimore.

Ambrose talked about the three former Shield members being in the main event and Cole asked him if he wondered what would happen if they stayed together.

"This was the plan from Day 1." Ambrose said. "Come in and destroy everything and rebuild and plant new seeds and create a new, fresh WWE with us on top. That was always the plan from the get-go. And as plans go, they often go awry, but really in retrospect this was exactly what we wanted since Day 1."

Ambrose, who said he hates social media and doesn't feel pressure from the WWE Universe, said he always envisioned himself getting a title shot, but perhaps not this soon.

"Anybody that gets into this business, that wants to become great, that wants to achieve anything, that is ever gonna be anything in the WWE envisions themselves day and night -- when you're sleeping, when you're training -- one day competing for the WWE Championship. It's a dream come true. When I walked into the building two Mondays ago in Montreal, I didn't expect to be in this scenario at Payback. That kind of came out of the blue. But that's the thing, sometimes you have the most success in the world when you're just like a plastic bag just floating through the wind and you never know what tree you're gonna get caught on. And I just happened to get caught on a WWE Championship tree at Payback."

The Lunatic Fringe also said his fans are along for the ride with him.

"I feel like people are taking on the journey with me," he said. "You know because I didn't get to ride any elevator to the WWE Championship match at Payback. I didn't get put on the express train anywhere. I'm paddling up you know what creek. And after awhile, people feel like they're taking the journey with you and that's cool that some people like to share in my journeys all around the world."

Lastly, Ambrose talked about being the new face of the WWE.

"It's gonna be so much fun," he said. "Triple H is gonna be so mad. Stephanie McMahon is gonna be so mad. The Authority and the whole regime is gonna be so upset and it's gonna be very troubling times for me should I walk out of Baltimore on Sunday as WWE Champion because they're gonna try to get that thing away from me and they're not gonna stop at anything. And I'm gonna enjoy that. What a challenge. Walk in everyday with people trying to destroy you when you come to work. How much better could it be? Just the thought of reaching the top of that mountain. Buddy Rogers, Bruno Sammartino, Pedro Morales, Bret Hart [and] Shawn Michaels. Countless legends and people that I studied and learned from and aspired to be. To get up on that wall of champions and be part of that. They're looking every day for a new face of WWE it seems, and after Sunday this might be it."
