Gennady Golovkin Next Fight: Carl Froch A Possible Opponent On The Cobra's Terms? [VIDEO]

Gennady "GGG" Golovkin is set to fight little-known Willie Monroe Jr. on Saturday in California, and even if the slick southpaw is indeed the difficult challenge Golovkin has been craving inside the ring, he's not a fighter that will increase Golovkin's profile much. The middleweight knockout artist is closely linked to WBC middleweight champ Miguel Cotto, and 154-pound star Canelo Alvarez, but they are currently preoccupied with one another.

Golovkin's first huge fight might be against a super middleweight-Carl "The Cobra" Froch. Froch's trainer Rob McCracken doesn't think boxing fans have seen the last of Froch, and believes he'd take on an elite fighter if he got a sweet deal.

"If he gets the terms he wants to fight again I think he'll fight again," McCracken said. "If he doesn't get the terms that he wants-he's very wealthy and doesn't have any pressure on him - then he won't."

McCracken said only the biggest fights are likely to coax Froch back into the ring, specifically mentioning Andre Ward and Golovkin.

"If James DeGeale beat Andre Dirrell he'd be within his rights to call out Carl Froch, but until then it's irrelevant. He doesn't have anything to prove. The only people who can challenge him are elite fighters , Andre Ward or Golovkin."

Froch's manager Eddie Hearns thinks a bout vs. Golovkin may be a bad idea, given Froch's questionable motivation for returning to fight.

"If you're going to fight unmotivated, given the way he fights, you're going to get hurt," Hearn said. "I don't think anyone would like to see that." Hearn also said he thinks it's becoming clearer Froch won't fight again.

"I think we might have reached the end of the road for Carl," Hearn said. "The WBA have stripped him and it's not unexpected. We were expecting it because you can't just sit on belts. It's fair enough because he's got no fight planned and no fight scheduled.

"As time passes I think it's increasingly unlikely that Froch will ever fight again. Now it feels like it could be the right time [to retire]."
