Troy Tulowitzki Mets Trade Rumors: Rockies SS 'Not Forcing' Way Out Of Colorado [VIDEO]

If the Colorado Rockies end up trading shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, it's not going to be because the slugger asked them to.

Amid reports from the New York Post that Tulowitzki was seeking a trade through comments made by his agent, Tulowitzki cleared the air Thursday and said he isn't looking to be dealt and is committed to helping Colorado turn around its rough start to the season.

"Whatever happens on the Rockies' end happens, but for me to sit here and try to force my way out of here, that's not the case," Tulowitzki said, according to MLB.com. "I don't think it's fair to my teammates and the relationships I've built here to take that route."

Following the comments, the Rockies defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 to snap an 11-game losing streak.

Tulowitzki's agent Paul Cohen told the New York Post that he was planning on meeting with the shortstop on Thursday to discuss possibly requesting a trade.

"To say that is not a possibility would be silly." Cohen told the paper about a possible trade.

Tulowitzki met with Cohen in the morning and then spoke with the media afterward.

"Anybody that knows me or has covered me for a long time, I'm pretty honest and straightforward," Tulowitzki said, adding that the meeting Thursday morning was so that he and Cohen could get on the same page. "If I have an issue I would take care of it myself. The last thing I would try to do is leak something and get it out there. The Rockies' ownership and myself have always been close, so there's no reason to try to leak something. I'd go straight to them."

The story opened up further rumors that Tulowitzki could be dealt to the New York Mets due to the team's depth of pitching and need of an offensive spark and the Rockies' need for arms, but both teams quashed the notion.

Tulowitzki, 30, is owed $113.7 million through 2020 and would receive a $2 million relocation bonus if he is traded. The shortstop has dealt with several injuries throughout the years and has played in less than 100 games in two of the last three seasons.

Tulowitzki is hitting .289 this season with two homers and 11 RBI.

Colorado is 12-19 on the campaign and sits in the National League West cellar, 8.5 games behind the first place Dodgers.

The Rockies haven't had a winning season since 2010 and haven't reached the playoffs since 2009.
