Manchester United Transfer News: David De Gea Unsure Over Real Madrid Transfer After Warm Reception at Old Trafford

Real Madrid lodged a first bid for David De Gea on Tuesday, but the £14.4 million offer is well short of Manchester United's asking price, with the club seeking £28.7 million instead.

The transfer fee, however, will not be Madrid's lone obstacle. According to the Sun (via Goal Transfer Talk), De Gea has held talks with United's brass about his future and is now unsure about a move to the Spanish Capital after his warm reception at Old Trafford.

For Paul Scholes, it will prove to be the right decision.

"He could be their [Madrid's] goalkeeper for the next 10 years. Although, I would offer a few words of caution about that switch," he wrote in his Independent column. "It looks to me that Iker Casillas is not yet ready to step down as the No. 1 at Madrid, and you could hardly imagine a more successful, well-established goalkeeper than the man who has won everything for club and country."

"At United, David is the undisputed No. 1. He is loved by the supporters and valued by his teammates. It might not be quite so smooth at Madrid."

Just ask Keylor Navas.

The Costa Rican international was named La Liga's Goalkeeper of the Year following his performance with Levante during the 2013-14 campaign. A stellar World Cup run—one where he conceded just two goals and only one from open play—all but justified his place at Real Madrid. Iker Casillas' dip in form should've opened the opportunity for ample playing time, but it never came.

Largely relegated to the bench in place of Casillas' stature, Navas' journey should serve as a warning to De Gea.
