The Minnesota Vikings want to keep former MVP Adrian Peterson in town, but after eight years in purple he's ready to move on from the only team he's known.
Per Yahoo Sports, Peterson is sending a message to the organization by skipping all offseason workouts, and may decide to bypass mandatory minicamp in June as well as training camp. His absence at the offseason workouts will cost him $250,000.
A source close to the disgruntled running back said that money is not an issue for Peterson, and that his anger with the Vikings is personal. League sources contradicted that comment; Yahoo Sports also wrote about a league source claiming Peterson's agent Ben Dogra was speaking to the team about a reworked contract with more guaranteed money. Dogra declined to comment.
Peterson has myriad issues with the Vikings stemming from his suspension last year over child abuse allegations and the lack of support given by executives in the organization. He also believes he and his wife need a "fresh start" in a new city for "personal closure."
Peterson also took issue with how the Minnesota media covered allegations that his All Day Foundation, a charitable organization, misused funds. It was reported that Peterson used money from the foundation to pay for an orgy involving relatives and up to four women in a hotel room. Peterson and his representatives denied the reports, and said that there was mismanagement in 2009 that was rectified when new leadership was installed.
In 2014 Peterson only played in one game, rushing 21 times for 75 yards.
