Keyshia Cole Husband Daniel 'Boobie' Gibson Says He Was Protecting Her In Incident Leading To Assault Charges At Essence Music Festival

Daniel "Boobie" Gibson now says he was only protecting his wife, singer Keyshia Cole, when the incident leading to him being charged with assault and battery happened last month at the Essence Music Festival.

The Cleveland Cavaliers veteran guard told TMZ the alleged victim disrespected his wife in a “profane way.” Gibson added his wife was performing at the festival when the man approached her and began mouthing off a litany of “disrespectful comments.”

While Gibson admitted to TMZ an altercation broke out, he adds he did nothing wrong and has “nothing to be ashamed of or hide.”

Gibson, 27, turned himself in to New Orleans police sometime Monday morning and was released from custody just before noon.  He played in just 46 games for the Cavs last season and averaged a shade over five points a night while battling a string of lingering injuries. His best season came during the 2010-11 campaign when he averaged 11.6 points, 3 assists and 2.6 rebounds.

Gibson and Cole were wed in 2011 and soon thereafter begin starring in a B.E.T. reality show called Keyshia and Daniel: Family First. In 2010, they had their first child together, Daniel Hiram Gibson.

Cole was also recently in the media for all the wrong reasons after engaging in an nasty Twitter spat with followers over public criticisms she made of Beyonce’s hit song “Bow Down (I Been On).”

“Can’t stand when people all self-righteous when it’s convenient… it makes them look good,” Cole posted.  “Lmao! But can still talk s--t when convenient 2 FOH.”
