Mario Balotelli failed to produce, Raheem Sterling is unhappy and Daniel Sturridge is incapable of staying healthy, so Liverpool have turned their attentions to Burnley. The Reds have extensive interest in acquiring Danny Ings, saving him from relegation to the Championship.
There is, however, competition.
According to Liverpool Offside, Tottenham have submitted a £12M bid, which Burnley accepted, for the 22-year-old in order to scare Liverpool away, knowing the player's interest lies at Anfield. Liverpool are awaiting the expiration of his contract, so they can sign him and begin the arbitration process that would set the training compensation fee owed to Burnley.
Burnley expect a fee of around £7M. Liverpool hope to only pay around £4M for him.
Although the fee is yet to be agreed upon, one thing is certain: Ings will be a Premier League striker in 2015. Burnley boss Sean Dyche made that clear following the club's final match of the season.
"It's probable that was a farewell from Danny, though," Dyche said (via Metro). "The sounds coming out of him and his agent make it probable that he will be going elsewhere. I don't think I need to say too much. He has done that himself. Not with his words, but with his actions, certainly in the last two seasons."
"That sometimes happens in football," he added. "And every player has the right to run their contract down if they want to, so we will see what happens in the summer."
Ings finished his campaign with 11 goals and four assists, playing a direct part in 54 percent of Burnley's offensive productivity.
