Dwyane Wade’s Divorce, Child Custody Legal Bills To Top $10 Million According To Attorneys

Dwyane Wade’s divorce and subsequent child custody battles have cost the NBA star more than $10 million in legal fees, according to GossipExtra.com The website reports a pair of the at least dozen attorneys spanning two states working on the case over the last several months estimate Wade’s overall bill will easily come to total $10 million, if not soar past that mark.

Wade and one-time high school sweetheart Sihvaughn Funches were formally divorced in 2007 but since that time have waged a back and forth child custody battle for their two young sons that has kept the pair in courtrooms in both Chicago and Florida.   “We were at about $8 million last year, and now we’re definitely at $10 million,” one of the lawyers told GossipExtra.

“He’s paying more for lawyers than what he is paying his wife for the settlement. It was a complicated case, but it may have become personal.”

Wade is said to be footing the bill for both his and his ex’s attorneys through a special bank account previously agreed upon by the two that includes proceeds from a small portion of his Heat salary and money earned by him through endorsements.

“My gut feeling is that he doesn’t even know how much he’s paying (in legal bills),” the source added. Wade has been awarded full custody of the couple’s two sons, though Funches has visitation rights that allow her to spend two per month and a full month in the summer with the kids.

In addition, Wade agreed last month to pay Funches a $5 million lump sum, as well as gift her with the deed to a home they once shared in the Chicago area.  For those proceedings alone, Wade was represented by four attorneys and Funches two, turning what was expected to be a 30-minute hearing into a near all day sequence of legal maneuverings.
