AC Milan Transfer News: Luiz Adriano Rejects €8 Million Offer, Rossoneri in Pole Position to Sign Him

AC Milan haven't finished bolstering their strike force. According to the Express, the club is in pole position to acquire Luiz Adriano from Shakhtar Donetsk this summer.

Current manager Mircea Lucescu said as much on TeleRadioStereo this Wednesday.

"The Rossoneri are in pole position at the moment," Lucescu said. "There's nothing with Roma. In January, nothing happened, either. We couldn't find a deal with Roma, who wanted to take him on loan and we had Champions League commitments, so couldn't afford to let him go. Roma did not insist, so his attention went elsewhere."

Adriano will be out of contract in December, allowing him to leave on a free transfer. The 28-year-old, however, has no intention of leaving Shakhtar Donetsk in dire straights.

"He'd help out the club if he'd agree to a move [rather than leave for free]," Lucescu added. "Everyone suffers with the current uncertain situation, but it's only right that he decide his future."

"Al-Ahli and Fenerbahce both offered €8m, but Luiz Adriano didn't accept their offers."

Adriano was effective in the Ukrainian Premier League last season—finishing with nine goals—but his true impact at the club level came in the UEFA Champions League. The Brazilian international finished as one of the tournament's top goal scorers—boasting nine goals and an assist.

Only Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi finished with more (10).

Should AC Milan secure his transfer, it will serve as the club's second momentous signing, with Carlos Bacca's imminent signature being the first.
