Russell Wilson Seahawks Rumors: Baseball a Viable Ploy for Seattle Seahawks To Sign QB? [VIDEO]

The topic of baseball again came up in a conversation involving Russell Wilson, and the quarterback stepped up to the plate with his consistent response.

Profootballtalk.nbcsports.com reported that the Seattle Seahawks quarterback appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Thursday night, and the show's host asked him about his interest in becoming a two-sports star.

Placing Russell Wilson on trading block an option for Seahawks?

Wilson reiterated a serious interest in playing both professional football and professional baseball concurrently.

"It'd be tough to play [both]," Wilson said. "But, you know, there's always a way."

Asked whether the Texas Rangers trading his rights to the Seattle Mariners would be more of an incentive to try both sports, Wilson said, "I'd definitely consider it."

Baseball remains the biggest bargaining chip Wilson may have in his attempt to become the highest paid quarterback in the NFL. But could it also become a bargaining chip for the Seahawks?

If Wilson fails to reach an agreement with the Seahawks, he could threaten to leave the NFL and sign with the Rangers. After all, he left his football agent, Bus Cook, to work exclusively with baseball agent Mark Rodgers in contract negotiations with the Seahawks.

If he were to negotiate with the Rangers to let him play football, then he could negotiate with any NFL team that wanted to take a chance that he could do both. Wilson would have to back off from his alleged demands of wanting to be the highest-paid player in the NFL, but that might not be as significant because he'd have a baseball contract as well.

Such a theory might actually help the Mariners' cause if they were so inclined. Could they get around having to make him the highest-paid NFL player by dangling the opportunity to pursue a baseball career - with conditions - in front of him?

In other words, would Wilson accept less money from the Seahawks if they gave him permission to play baseball in the offseason?
