Many of this year’s crop of free agents have already signed, but one highly-coveted big man is still available—DeAndre Jordan.
The Clippers big man led the NBA in dunks last season, and was one of the most impactful defenders in the league. Jordan averaged 2.2 blocks per game (3rd in the NBA) and he ranked fourth in blocks per game. Jordan also led the league in field goal percentage (71 percent) and effective field goal percentage (71 percent), a metric that treats 3-point field goals as greater than 2-point shots.
Jordan is reportedly torn between returning to the Clippers, where he and Blake Griffin were catching highlight-reel alley-oops from Chris Paul on a nightly basis, or heading to the Dallas Mavericks.

The Clippers are in a much better position to succeed in the immediate future, and can also offer more money and an extra season than Dallas. However, Jordan may prefer to sign a shorter contract with a player-option to re-enter free agency once the salary cap leaps up along with the NBA’s massive television deal.
Jordan also might be a better on-court fit with Dirk Nowtizki at power forward than Blake Griffin. Jordan and Griffin’s games are redundant, with both players excelling at the rim and on the boards. Griffin has vastly improved his outside shot, but Nowtizki prefers to play on the perimeter.
