Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Rajon Rondo Now A Target After Striking Out On Big Names?

The Los Angeles Lakers were humiliated in the media after their meeting with top free agent LaMarcus Aldridge went awry, and with many free agents already signed the Lakers are scrambling for improvements.

According to reports, the Lakers might have set their sights on point guard Rajon Rondo, a polarizing player.

The Dallas Mavericks traded for Rondo in the middle of last season as a final puzzle piece, but his time there was stormy. He clashed with head coach Rick Carlisle, caused Dallas offense to be disjointed, and eventually wound up being sent home during Dallas’ first-round postseason washout.

Despite his ugly exit from Dallas, his terrible 3-point and free throw shooting, and a reputation for being difficult to coach, Rondo is a gifted passer and, more importantly, a former champion.

Last season Rondo showed serious decline in his overall production. Returning from a serious knee injury, Rondo’s scoring dropped into single-digits (8.9), and his free throw shooting dipped dramatically. In previous seasons Rondo was poor from the line for a guard, hovering in the 60 percent range, but last season was a disaster in which he made less than 40 percent of his foul shots.

Additionally, Rondo could be an awkward fit with the Lakers because of how well Jordan Clarkson played last season. Clarkson was close to the only bright spot of L.A.’s terrible year, and force-feeding a declining Rondo minutes may stunt Clarkson’s development.
