Cleveland Browns Johnny Manziel Rumors: Johnny Football Remains In Plans, Says Mike Pettine

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel remains in the team's plans, despite the arrival of veteran quarterback Josh McCown this offseason and the heaps of praise he's received during OTAs.

According to USA Today, Browns head coach Mike Pettine said that the team has not given up on the 2014 first-round pick. Johnny Football did have another off-field incident this offseason in which he was said to have thrown a three-quarters full water bottle at an 18-year-old, who was then pushed by an associate of Manziel's.

Aside from that incident, Manziel, who spent 10 weeks in rehab this offseason, has said the right things and been contrite about his past distractions.

"I feel bad about that throughout the last months of my life really thinking back and seeing how much of my life outside of this field and outside of this locker room was documented," Manziel said near the end of OTAs.

"It's not fair for Joe Haden to be having to answer questions about me every day. It's not fair for Joe Thomas and all these guys to just continue to have questions asked about me. I don't think that's fair at all and I don't want that on them."

Manziel has also said he is removing his signature "Money Sign" celebration after big plays. When Manziel struggled at the NFL level the money sign that once defined him in college became an easy tool for opponents to taunt him with. In a preseason game the Redskins frustrated him with that money sign, and he earned bad press for flipping off the Washington bench on national television.

Manziel is unlikely to start with McCown on the roster, and he'll battle veteran Thad Lewis and fellow second-year passer Connor Shaw for a backup role.
