Connor McDavid Highlights 2015: Oilers No. 1 Pick Shines, Scores Five Goals In Scrimmage [VIDEO]

It may have only been a scrimmage between prospects, but Connor McDavid is already turning heads in the NHL.

The No. 1 draft pick wowed the crowd at Rexall Place by scoring five goals during a 4-on-4 intrasquad scrimmage between Oilers prospects at their home arena of Rexall Place in the Billy Moores Cup, named after a former Edmonton assistant coach.

According to NHL.com, McDavid lit the lamp three times in two 20-minute halves of 4-on-4 action and then found the twine twice more in seven minutes of 3-on-3 play.

3 Biggest Trades This Offseason

"It was fun. Anytime you get a chance to play in front of fans like that, it's always exciting," McDavid said per NHL.com. "It was pretty competitive, just with the guys that we had, and they made a lot of great plays out there."

McDavid's output led his team to an 8-6 victory, ending a six-day orientation camp for the young up-and-comers.

McDavid skated for the first time as a member of the Oilers since being selected with the first overall pick on June 26 at the NHL Draft in Florida. It marked the fourth time in six years that Edmonton was armed with the top pick in the draft.

The budding star took the six days to familiarize himself with his new club, the staff and the facilities at Rexall Place.

"We learned a lot, we had a lot of different meetings and all that," McDavid said. "You just try to listen and you just want to be a sponge all week. That's what you have to be doing, you have to be learning, and that's what this week is all about."

The Oilers haven't made the playoffs since 2006 and finished 13th in the 14-team Western Conference last season, but McDavid's arrival paired with some offseason moves have brought winds of excitement and change to the franchise.

Edmonton's 2015-16 campaign opens up with a game against the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 8 and it is highly likely that McDavid will join his young teammates when the puck drops at the Scottrade Center.

McDavid, however, is being humble.

"If I make the team and I'm part of the team next year, then being with those guys will be great," McDavid said. "Most hockey guys are great guys, and I've heard nothing but good things about everyone in this locker room."
