Amid Dolph Ziggler's murky contract status, it appears the WWE has written him off of television for the foreseeable future.

Ziggler has been in a relationship storyline with Lana that drew the ire of the Ravishing Russian's former charge Rusev and led to Summer Rae pairing off with the Bulgarian Brute.

The kayfabe drama all came to a head this past week on Monday Night RAW when Rusev revealed that his legitimate fractured foot has healed and then was booked to attack Dolph Ziggler.

The Super Athlete focused on the throat of The Showoff and used his crutches to complete the brutal attack, leading to the WWE having him carted off in an ambulance.

After saying that Ziggler suffered a storyline throat injury and was rushed to the hospital, the company updated a statement on WWE.com and wrote that the four-time Intercontinental Champion will be out indefinitely.

"Further evaluation by medical staff revealed that Ziggler is suffering from a severely bruised trachea," the company wrote on WWE.com. "He was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon after being monitored overnight to make sure his windpipe didn't close. He is having issues talking and swallowing and will be out indefinitely."

This comes on the heels of controversy surrounding Ziggler's contract as there were rumors he was planning on bolting the organization when it expired sometime in the next couple of months.

It was then reported and seemingly confirmed by The Showoff that he re-signed a deal with Vince McMahon's organization until he appeared in another interview and said he would like to ink a new deal, but nothing was set in stone yet and he was weighing his options.

After Rusev and Lana split earlier this year, she was immediately paired with Ziggler to set up a feud between the Ravishing Russian's former and current love interests.

Rusev then sustained a real-life foot injury, causing the rivalry to be filled with promos rather than matches and Summer Rae was added to the fray two weeks ago.

It seemed to be building to either a mixed tag team match or a Rusev vs. Ziggler encounter, but the WWE finally has Rusev healthy and chose to write off Ziggler.

It's unknown if the storyline will continue or if the booking has something to do with Ziggler's contract, but it seems as though The Showoff will be absent for a notable amount of time.
