It appeared as though Nikki Bella would defend her WWE Divas Championship against Paige at Battleground on Sunday, but those plans may have been nixed.
There were rumors going around that Bella and Paige would once again clash for the Divas Championship at Battleground live from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, but Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that those plans seemed to have been dropped.
Per the report, the plan for Nikki vs. Paige was still on as recently as two weeks ago, but following Monday's storyline change with the Divas, it was dropped.
On Monday night, Stephanie McMahon revealed the debut of three NXT Divas, including Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Charlotte, who is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair.
There were rumors the trio would make their main roster debut around SummerSlam, but the process was expedited due to the popularity of women's sports right now with the U.S women's soccer team winning the World Cup.
Lynch and Charlotte sided with Paige in her crusade against Team Bella while Banks paired off with Tamina and Naomi to form another trio.
With the latest developments, the planned Paige vs. Bella match has reportedly been scrapped, but there's been nothing announced for the Divas so it's likely something will be thrown together.
The feud between these factions is likely to consume the rest of the summer and should be a huge part of the SummerSlam card on Aug. 23 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It remains to be seen what impact the Divas will have on Battleground this weekend.
Battleground emanates live this Sunday from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
