Tom Brady Deflategate Rumors: Patriots QB Worried Jimmy Garoppolo Will Take His Starting Job? [VIDEO]

One of the reasons for Tom Brady's staunch defense of his four-game suspension could be the fear of the unknown backup quarterback.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport suggested in an NFL.com video interview that Brady long has been insecure about losing his job, and the fact that backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could have a four-game audition does not sit well with the four-time Super Bowl champion.

Tom Brady willing to accept suspension but not blame in Deflategate case?

"One thing he has feared for a long time is anyone taking a snap instead of him, which is one reason why he wants to stay on the field all the time in blowouts, really regardless of what the score is," Rapoport said of Brady. "So now if Brady does either lose in federal court, not receive the injunction; if there is some reason he is not on the field for weeks 1-4, then he is going to see his future, the Patriots' future, potentially, in Jimmy Garoppolo, and what if he's good?

NFL owners pressured NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to uphold Tom Brady suspension?

"Then it makes a very interesting decision for the Patriots next offseason, something Tom Brady wants very badly that they do not consider for a long time."

It seems also ludicrous to believe that Brady would be concerned about Garoppolo after having just won a Super Bowl, but Brady will turn 38 in a few days and any fears about another quarterback replacing him would be consistent with what has been his staunch defiance of taking any blame in the Deflategate ordeal.

Brady seems to be excessively worried about being implicated in any wrongdoing that he has helped keep Deflategate alive for six months. If it were any random player involved in Deflategate, would the NFL Players Association back him as vociferously as it has Brady, or would it advise him just to take a one-game suspension and let the issue fade away?

Brady's defense on Facebook that his lawyers told the NFL that he would not supply his mobile phone for any investigation is counterproductive to his defense if he were innocent. Brady seems so intent on getting his name cleared now, but providing his phone to Ted Wells four months ago would've been a big help in his cause if he were innocent.

Now, he may have caused one of the things he's feared the most: a Jimmy Garoppolo audition in the NFL.
