J.R. Smith Driving New York Streets In $450,000 Armored Vehicle, Gurkha F5

New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith has been seen driving around Manhattan in a new $450,000 armored truck, according to reports.

Smith, who received a four-year, $24 million contract from the team earlier this summer, was observed rolling up to a Meatpacking District restaurant called Catch late last week in the Gurkha F5, Toronto-made vehicle also used by police and military.

It’s been a summer of intrigue for Smith, who also recently died his hair blonde, only to be told by coach Mike Woodson to get rid of it.

According to Earl Smith, Woodson’s rationale for having his son make the switch back seems to be the more the team makes Smith conform to all the smaller rules the better chance they may have of keeping him in line when it comes to issues of deeper magnitude.

Indeed, with the equally eccentric Metta World Peace having joined the Knicks roster this off season, the need for the organization to stress discipline and team unity this season might well be greater than ever.

Smith, 27, is expected to miss the start of the season as he recuperates from a pair of surgical procedures performed on his left knee earlier this off season. Doctors performed a patella tendon procedure and worked on his torn lateral meniscus. He is expected to be back sometime in November.
