Ricky Williams Rips Johnny Manziel, Fellow Heisman Trophy Winner, Over Autograph Signing Controversy

It might not be wise to invite Ricky Williams and Johnny Manziel to the same Heisman fraternity celebration.

Williams, who won the award at Texas in 1998, recently told reporters of last year’s winner, “You know once you win the Heisman Trophy, there’s going to be more attention on you. You are probably not going to be able to get away with all the stuff you got away with before. To the media, I would say, if the media did their research on who this kid was before, nobody would be surprised.”

Manziel is now under scrutiny by the NCAA amid reports he accepted payment for autographs signed after his historic freshmen season at Texas A&M. At least three sports brokers have told NCAA investigators they paid Manziel for autographing various pieces of memorabilia, including a Connecticut broker who claims he paid him $7,500 for signing 300 mini and full-sized A& M helmets back in January.

The broker also later provided media members with two cell phone videos allegedly showing Manziel signing the merchandise, though it does not show any money actually changing hands.

If the NCAA investigation finds that Manziel has violated NCAA Bylaw 12.5.2.1 -- accepting money for promoting or advertising the commercial sale of a product or service -- he could be ruled ineligible
