Sting may not appear at SummerSlam later this month, but the WWE has plans for the Vigilante to return to the ring sometime in 2015.

10 Things We Want To See Happen At WWE SummerSlam

After there were reports that Sting was told to get ready to compete at SummerSlam, the WWE changed its mind and decided not to use him in a wrestling capacity at the event.

While he may not appear on Aug. 23 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the WWE still has plans to re-integrate the former WCW icon and TNA Hall of Famer into the fold later this year, according to Wrestlingheadlines.com.

Sting reportedly got into tremendous shape after the WWE originally asked him to be a part of SummerSlam, so when he does return he'll be ready for action.

The original rumors called for Sting to team up with former Shield stablemates Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose to battle The Wyatt Family in a high-profile six-man tag team match at The Biggest Party of the Summer, but those plans have since been nixed.

The storyline would have seen The Wyatt's take on a new member to replace the injured Erick Rowan causing a 3-on-2 advantage for the heels until Sting showed up to even the odds.

While the WWE reportedly nixed those plans, there are new rumors that Sting is likely to appear at Night of Champions in September or possibly later in the fall at Hell in a Cell or the Survivor Series -- the very event at which he made his WWE debut last November.

Night of Champions, which takes place on Sept. 20, emanates from Houston, Tex., and with The Vigilante being a resident of the Lone Star State, it's possible the WWE brings him in for that event.

If Sting returns for the September special, the WWE may very well do the originally planned six-man tag team match that night, either with a returning Rowan teaming up with Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper or a new member if his injury still persists.

Sting, 56, has only one match on his WWE resume right now as he lost to Triple H in his debut in March at WrestleMania 31 from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

Sting has said in interviews that he is hopeful for another return to the ring in the WWE and that he'd take another opportunity to mix it up in the squared circle with open arms.

The six-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion will be in New York City on the eve of SummerSlam for an autograph signing, but the WWE doesn't appear to have plans for him to wrestle at the actual event.

While he may not compete, Sting could always make a run-in at some point since he'll be in the Big Apple anyway.

Anything can happen, but it appears as though the WWE is at least gearing up for another Sting encounter in the near future.
