Sting WWE Rumors: 'Vigilante' Leaves NYC, Not Slated For 'SummerSlam' [VIDEO]

It looks like the Green Arrow will be the only hero at SummerSlam this Sunday as "The Vigilante" will not be taking part in the festivities.

"Arrow" star Stephen Amell will team up with Neville to battle Stardust and King Barrett, but after a lot of speculation, it appears former WCW and TNA legend Sting will not be at "The Biggest Party of the Summer." The big event invades the Barclays Center in New York City this Sunday night.

WWE SummerSlam 2015 Predictions & Preview

There were a lot of rumors that Sting would play some kind of role in the WWE's second-biggest event of the year, but he is no longer in New York City, according to PWInsider.

The wrestling legend is headed toward Chicago, where he will make a Wizard World appearance.

NXT Takeover: Brooklyn Predictions & Preview

Sting was brought into the Big Apple by the WWE for a special autograph signing with fans on Saturday, which led to a lot of belief that he would hang around and make a surprise appearance at SummerSlam. Sting hasn't appeared on-screen since he made his in-ring WWE debut in a loss to Triple H at WrestleMania on March 29 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

There were rumors in July that Sting would join forces with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose during their storyline feud with The Wyatt Family. The angle would have seen Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper get a new member to replace the injured Erick Rowan in order to get a 3-on-2 advantage on the babyfaces.

Sting was then slated to triumphantly return to WWE television to help even the odds and set up a six-man tag team match at SummerSlam. The WWE opted to drop the storyline and it will be Reigns and Ambrose against The Wyatt Family in a standard tag team match instead.

There was speculation after the nixed angle that Sting could get involved in the main event between The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. The goal would have been to build toward a program at WrestleMania 32 between "The Vigilante" and "The Deadman," but that appears to be out of the cards.

Sting's next in-ring appearance, if it ever happens, will have to wait as the WWE Universe awaits the return of "The Vigilante."
