Ian Poulter-Howard Stern Twitter Update: PGA Fan Removed From Tournament After Shouting 'Baba Booey' on Golfer's Backswing

Ian Poulter is enjoying the latest laugh.

According to media reports, a PGA Tour official confirmed that a fan was removed Thursday night after yelling during Poulter's backswing during the first round of The Barclays in Jersey City, N.J.

Poulter, who is taking a stand against fans shouting nonsensical phrases, tweeted his approval, according to Deadspin.com.

"The good news of today was only 1 donut shouted out Baba Booey and he was swiftly removed from the premises," Poulter wrote.

During the final round of the PGA Championship earlier this month, Poulter took to Twitter to complain about golf fans yelling all sorts of phrases after players were taking swings. He said that tour professionals should be allowed to "tazer ever(y) muppet who shouts out something. I would laugh then."

Some of the phrases reportedly include "mashed potatoes" and "yabba-dabba-do."

Poulter then made a reference to one particular phrase, "Baba Booey," a phrase made famous on the Howard Stern radio show. Poulter retweeted a fan's comment about the phrase, spelling it "Babba Booey."

To which Stern tweeted the correct spelling, saying it was indeed, "Baba Booey."

That added fuel to the fire, with several golf analysts suggesting that Poulter was going to get an earful the next time he stepped onto the golf course.

The removal of the fan, however, likely had more to do with the timing of his shout, rather than the words he used.

PGA Tour executive vice president of communications Ty Votaw recently told GolfChannel.com that a screaming fan would only be removed if he affected competition.

"It's lumped in with any behavior that affects the competition," Votaw said. "Anything that influences the competition in a way that's disruptive. I'm not sure shouting 'mashed potatoes' after a guy hits the ball is disruptive. It might be irksome, but it may not fall into that category of disruptive to the competition."

Stern has yet to respond, but apparently some Poulter bashers have because Deadspin posted another Poulter post that read:

"Twitters finest creation the wonders of the block button. BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK. It so therapeutic and relaxing. BLOCK BLOCK. Night all"
