Jamaica vs. Nicaragua Highlights: Jamaica 2-3 Nicaragua, Analysis, Recap and Match Report [VIDEO]

Goals:  Jamaica—Mattocks 69’ - Mariappa 78’; Nicaragua—Rosas 5’ (penalty) - Chavarria 8’ - Galeano 48’

Recap: History was made in Kingston on Friday, seeing Nicaragua defeat Jamaica 3-2.

A handball allowed the visitors to open the affair just five minutes in. Manuel Rosas calmly buried the subsequent penalty. A superb individual effort from Carlos Chavarria doubled Nicaragua’s lead in the eighth minute. Jamaica weren’t finished bleeding goals from there. A dubious mistake saw Luis Manuel Galeano open a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute.

Jamaica eventually responded. Goals from Darren Mattocks and Adrian Mariappa cut the lead to one goal, but it proved to be too little too late.

Nicaragua carry a 3-2 aggregate lead into the second leg on Tuesday.

Key Moment: Pick one. Jamaica had ample opportunities to complete the comeback and secure a victory, but GK Justo Lorente would not be denied. His final and most decisive save came in stoppage time.

Man of the Match: If not for Lorente, Nicaragua would enter Tuesday's match on the brink of elimination.

Lesson Learned: Mattocks needs to be played in a position where he can stretch Nicaragua’s back line in the second leg. The 25-year-old was lethal once Deshorn Brown was substituted on in the 67th minute. The tactical shift allowed Mattocks to find his goal just two minutes later. Poor finishing was all that kept him from a brace or a potential hat-trick, but a Brown-Mattocks pairing in the second leg should be considered to overturn this deficit.

Up Next: Both teams travel to Nicaragua on Sept. 8 to determine a winner in this playoff tie.
