Key Storylines

--Williams is bidding to become the first woman to notch a calendar-year grand slam since Steffi Graff accomplished the feat in 1988.

--The historical edge goes to Williams as she's earned victories in all four of their head-to-head meetings to date, which is part of the reason she enters as the heavy favorite to win. In the most recent meeting between these two last month in Toronto, Williams defeated the Italian superstar 6-4, 6-3 in the Rogers Cup quarterfinals.

--Though Williams is getting most, if not all, of the hype for this match, Vinci being unranked and making it this far is certainly worth some praise. Williams said herself that Vinci isn't "in the semifinals of a Grand Slam for no reason," according to ESPNW.

--Numbers don't lie, and this is a very lopsided affair. Williams owns the edge in overall career record (737-122 to 512-353), 2015 record (53-2 to 25-20), career titles (69 to 9), 2015 titles (5 to 1) and career U.S. Open record (84-9 to 17-12).
