FanDuel Strategy NFL Week 5: Best Bargains At Each Position To Stock Up On Star Players

Trying to get rich quick on Fanduel? The best way to cash on weekly fantasy football sites is to load up on as many stars with good matchups as possible. Due to budget restraints, however, fantasy players must sacrifice other positions to nab the stars they want.

Here, you'll find the top bargains at each position that will let you splurge elsewhere.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickup Advice

Quarterbacks

1. Sam Bradford, Eagles ($7,500): You know what was lost in New Orleans’ thrilling OT win over the Cowboys? That their pass defense is still atrocious. The Eagles will be desperate, and last week Bradford rediscovered the possibility of throwing deep passes. Love the matchup, and expect Bradford to produce elite-type numbers.

2. Alex Smith, Chiefs ($6,900): Smith is so close! Last week he threw for 386 yards and somehow managed to not throw a touchdown pass. It’s infuriating, but with Jeremy Maclin, Travis Kelce and Jamaal Charles at his disposal it can’t continue. Right? His matchup with Chicago, the 31st-ranked pass defense in the NFL per FootballOutsiders, is a plus.

Ranking The 6 Undefeated Teams' Chances to Run The Table

3. Jameis Winston, Buccaneers ($6,400): Winston was absolutely atrocious last week vs. Carolina, but that is a good defense. The Jaguars have a bad defense, and despite throwing more picks (7) than touchdowns (6), the Bucs keep turning Famous Jameis loose. Once he realizes he will be fine once he starts throwing it to Mike Evans all the time Winston will have his numbers. Hopefully that’s this week.

Running Backs

1. Todd Gurley, Rams ($6,700): We saw what Gurley is capable of last week when he tore up the Cardinals defense. Now we might see real fireworks against the Packers, who have the NFL’s worst rushing defense. Gurley averaged almost eight yards per carry on Sunday, and costs about the price of an average player on FanDuel. Scoop him up.

2. C.J. Spiller, Saints ($5,500): They did it guys! They got Spiller the ball. Drew Brees’ 400th touchdown pass came on an 80-yard pass to Spiller, who just got by a blown coverage and took it to the house. The Saints made an effort to throw to him more, but they can do better. Spiller is healthy, so even though Khiry Robinson is talented, he shouldn’t see the field. This needs to be the Mark Ingram and Spiller show moving forward.

3. Dion Lewis, Patriots, ($6,900): With a bye week to prepare, rest assured that Bill Belichick knows Dallas can’t defend running backs in the passing game. They are ranked 31st according to FootballOutsiders, and Lewis will be featured because of it.

Wide Receivers

1. Jeremy Maclin, Chiefs ($6,900): An Alex Smith-Maclin stack makes sense in Week 5. Maclin has already broken Smith’s lengthy streak of not throwing touchdowns to receivers, and last week he topped 140 yards for the second straight week. The Bears are the worst team in football at defending No. 1 receivers, so cue up Maclin and watch the points accumulate.

2. Allen Robinson, Jaguars ($6,300): Robinson has been getting outplayed by Allen Hurns lately, but the targets are there. Bortles threw the ball his way 12 times last week, the second straight week he saw a dozen looks. Against Tampa Bay, expect him to reel in more than the four he did against the Colts.

3. Terrance Williams, Cowboys ($5,900): Williams was a target hound last week, and even though he only caught three of his 10 targets, he found the end zone. Williams is very good at scoring touchdowns, even when his catch volume is down. Against the Patriots’ weak pass defense he is in for a big game.

Tight Ends

1. Zach Ertz, Eagles ($5,000): Ertz has been frustrating to use all season, and most people have probably given up on him. That’s why you pounce! Nobody will be adding him this week, and his matchup against the Saints, who rank second-to-last against tight ends, is juicy.

2. Crockett Gillmore, Ravens, ($5,100): Ravens coach John Harbaugh thinks Gillmore will play this week, and if he plays, you should play him. Because the Browns are 26th vs. tight ends and Gillmore is better than you think.

3. Charles Clay, Bills ($5,700): Clay has been on fire lately, catching 14 passes, putting up 193 yards and scoring once. That should continue with Sammy Watkins’ status unclear, and the Titans D being the worst in the NFL thus far at handling tight ends.
