The WWE was building Paige as the next big heel when she cut her "Paige Bomb" a few weeks back on Monday Night RAW, but a lot of her momentum evaporated this week when she tapped out cleanly to Natalya. There could be a reason for the sudden de-push.
Now, tapping to Natalya isn't necessarily a bad thing, Jim Neidhart's daughter has what it takes to be one of the best Divas in the ring, but it was curious to see Paige breakout into a new character only to fall to Natalya cleanly via tapout. This sort of loss usually only happens when the WWE isn't keen on a certain Diva.
Paige Reveals Desire To Go Off-Script During Promo
Turns out, there is some backstage heat on Paige, according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer. The wrestling insider noted that "something happened with Paige," which could explain why she is out of title contention right now and the reason behind her tapping out in the early stages of her heel turn.
Meltzer said he didn't know any specifics, but speculating on possible reasons for her sudden fall from grace, it could have something to do with the pipe bomb she dropped a few weeks ago.
Paige Says She Doesn't Want To Get Married
Paige laid into the whole Divas division, including The Bella Twins, going as far as to dig into Brie being married to Daniel Bryan and Nikki dating John Cena. She linked the relationships to helping inflate their standing in the company. This came amid rumors that the United States Champion used his political stroke to keep the belt on his girl prior to Charlotte winning it.
It's unknown whether or not that has anything to do with her being booked to lose Monday night, but something seems amiss between her and the higher-ups in the WWE. The two-time Divas Champion has shown a flare for being cocky on social media and during her time as a judge on "Tough Enough," and she may have pissed the wrong people off with her acid tongue.
There were also rumors that Paige would factor into the Divas Championship match at Hell in a Cell, and things could still change, but the WWE announced it as Nikki Bella vs. Charlotte this week on RAW.
The Divas Revolution may pass Paige by.
