The University of Maryland football team will reportedly be parting with head coach Randy Edsall, who seems to have lost the faith of the athletic department as well as his players.
Edsall is currently on the fifth year of his six-year contract worth $10 million. While he did get a three-year extension back in July, where only $500,000 of the $7.5 million is guaranteed, it looks like he is as good as gone and the 57-year-old coach is pretty much aware of it.

The Terps have lost by an average margin of 40-11 in their losses but the glaring thing about it is that Edsall seems to have lost the confidence and trust of his players. He is 22-33 at Maryland.
It is believed that a formal announcement regarding Edsall’s fate will be made on Saturday after the team’s game against defending national champion Ohio State.

With his departure seemingly imminent, it is believed that a leading candidate to take over from Edsal is offensive coordinator Mike Locksley. Locksley also has head coaching experience and such has placed him as a frontrunner for the Terps head coaching position.
On whether Edsall’s successor would be Locksley or not, the fact remains that whoever ends up replacing him will have to plan ahead against other Big Ten teams such as Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State.
As far as backing is concerned, Maryland is in good hands with the financial support covered by Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank. Plank is a former Terrapin player and is someone who wants to see the program in Maryland improve.
