Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Joseph Randle's Bad Decisions Might Cost Him Starting Job [VIDEO]

The Cowboys’ running game has not resembled the well-oiled machine of 2014 starring DeMarco Murray, and Dallas may be turning to Christine Michael to recapture that magic.

With Lance Dunbar out for the season, the Cowboys are going to have to re-calculate their running back rotation because none of their three backs – Michael, Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden – have Dunbar’s pass-catching ability. Michael is the most physical of the three, and Randle’s mental lapses make him more likely to cede carries than McFadden.

Last week Randle’s questionable decision making, which has shown up off the field too, was on display. A week after being scolded for reaching the ball out for extra yardage and risking a turnover, he did it again vs. the Saints. When asked about the play, Randle brushed it off and hinted it may happen again.

“It wasn’t fundamental, but we’re going to keep running,” Randle said. So far head coach Jason Garrett said he isn’t planning to make changes in the division of carries, but if Randle continues to be reckless, well, fumbles aren’t typically tolerated by NFL coaches. Especially when there are two capable options behind the fumbler, and the fumbler is on thin ice thanks to multiple offseason run-ins with the law.

Michael received one carry vs. the Saints on Sunday night, but there’s talk of him being a goal-line “hammer.” If he succeeds at that, and Dallas continues to average 3.8 yards per rush on the whole, it wouldn’t be surprising for him Michael to assume some early-down work. McFadden has a niche, and is the only proven receiver of the three, so Randle has the most to lose.

Especially if he won’t listen to coaches and play safe.
