Tristan Thompson Signs Five-Year, $82 Million Contract With Cleveland Cavaliers

Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson is set to stay with the team.

Cavalier's beat reporter and NBA Insider Chris Haynes tweeted a post on his official Twitter account, saying that the 24-year-old Canadian player had signed a five year, $82 million deal.

Haynes' post generated more than 400 favorites and more than a thousand re-tweets, along with fans' comments. Most Twitter users said that Thompson had attached himself to a big amount of money. Twitter user VETTXEV said that Thompson had been overpaid; however, he had been a "big piece of the puzzle."

According to Sports Illustrated, the five year, $82 million deal was entirely guaranteed. Thompson is repped by Rich Paul, who also represents Cavaliers' small forward LeBron James. The publication added that Thompson and his representatives had reportedly been presented a maximum offer of $94 million; however, Thompson refused to sign a deal that would have made him a free agent following the current season.

Last month, it had been reported that Thompson had signed a contract worth $53 million over three years, according to Sports Illustrated. However, new reports debunked the former and clarified that the aforementioned figures had been merely the specifics Thompson would have been eager to sign.

Recently, Thompson also confirmed his return to the team through a post on his official Instagram account. He said, "It's been a long summer of grinding and hard work but now it's back to The Land to take care of some unfinished business. #HappyToBeBack #ALLin."
