LeBron James' lavish and long anticipated wedding to his high school sweetheart was almost marred when a woman described as "a groupie claiming to know" the NBA star tried to crash the ceremony.
According to Blacksportsonline.com, armed security was able to able to stop her at the door and "forcibly remove her" before a guest list that included teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and fellow NBA stars Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul could be disturbed.
Other news outlets have identified the woman as a Latina female from South Carolina who goes by the name of "A.J." At one time, she reportedly lived in a condo across the street from the American Airlines Arena where the Miami Heat play and has been known to frequently attend the team's home games.
The 28-year-old league MVP married Savannah Brinson, the mother of his two young children, in a three day event culminating in a Sept. 14 ceremony at the exclusive Grand Del Mar Hotel in San Diego.
Also in attendance were Jay Z and Beyonce, and the couple even serenaded the newlyweds with a rendition of their "Crazy In Love" at the reception. Reportedly, Beyonce flew all the way in from Brazil, where she was touring, to perform at the ceremony.
The newlywed's honeymoon will apparently be short-lived, as the two-time defending champion Heat are slated to open training camp later this month. Led by the Big 3 of James, Wade and Chris Bosh, Miami begins the season as the consensus favorites to hang yet another NBA banner.
Team president Pat Riley, also reported to be in attendance for the nuptials, was able to add troubled, but high-scoring forward Michael Beasley to the mix this off season, as well as former No. 1 overall draft pick Greg Oden.
In addition, Wade reportedly has spent much of the off season working out with famed Michael Jordan trainer Tim Grover and is confident his ailing knees will be able to hold up for the duration this season.
