At 3-4, the Saints face the danger of falling out of the division race. The Panthers (6-0) and Falcons (6-1) are already well in front of their counterpart. A loss would all but keep New Orleans out of the playoffs for a second consecutive season and for the third time in four years.
The magic from Super Bowl XLIV is gone. Brees shouldn’t be far behind.
The 36-year-old still has plenty to offer a playoff contending team. In seven starts, Brees is completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 1,871 yards and eight TDs.
The Saints are wasting it away, but the Jets wouldn’t.

Mortgaging the immediate future would turn the Jets into a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The Saints would have the opportunity to rebuild instead of wasting away a QB near the end of his career.
